Trust Your Timeline

Dr. Ayushi Toley Ganorkar is a dentist currently pursuing MDS in Orthodontics 2nd year at Chattisgarh Dental Research Institute, Rajnandgaon. Though dentistry was not her first choice, she took up the course as there was no option left for her. However, she rose through the ups and downs and learned a lot about dentistry and life through college. For her master’s, she chose Orthodontics as her major as she had a keen interest in the subject and wanted to explore more.

Dr. Ayushi turned her career towards orthodontics after marriage. While practicing dentistry, she realized that she needs to stop this and grow more. That’s when she decided to appear for the exam and pursue a master’s in orthodontics. Like many other students, Dr. Ayushi faced self-doubt during the preparation for the exam. Will I pass and score well? Will I get admission? Will I get the desired branch? Dr. Ayushi was surrounded by her own questions, but she overcame them by studying hard every day. As she was married, she had certain responsibilities too, though she had a supporting family. Handling all that and studying to her fullest every day made her what she is today. She focused on the present day and forgot about the past hard days that she faced.

Not many people understand the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist. Dr. Ayushi said that there is more in orthodontics than dentistry. It may look very simple from the above, but it has many things deeply rooted inside. She explained with an example, endodontists have a specific treatment plan for a particular issue of the tooth. In orthodontics, each patient is given a customized treatment and different patients have different treatments.

The current trend in orthodontics is that of a clear aligner system. There are multiple brands that manufacture it, but today even orthodontists can produce in their own office and use it to treat patients. This trend is growing, says Dr. Ayushi.

The Legit Talks asked Dr. Ayushi why orthodontists are known for bringing out the best smiles in people. Dr. Ayushi explained that there are two things: An aesthetic smile and overall facial harmony or facial balance. Orthodontists focus on facial balance more rather than focusing on just the smile. There are some people who just need to correct their smile as their facial balance is perfect (like actresses), and then there are people who need to have facial harmony. The way the teeth move, the orientation of your nose, the orientation of your upper jaw and lower jaw, and much more are now possible with all new techniques and efficient biomechanics. This has helped to correct any shape and make it more pleasing.

This, however, cannot be considered as a beauty treatment. The process involves different alignments such as the alignment of the upper jaws with the nose, and also the overall facial profile. It is difficult and different from what a dentist does to beautify your smile.

Everybody has a secret that no one knows about and The Legit Talks asked Dr. Ayushi about hers. She said that she has a mandatory checklist every day for the to-do tasks. If, for consecutive days, she is unable to prepare such a list or strike off the tasks, she gets cranky.

As mentioned at the beginning of the interview, becoming a dentist was not the first choice of career by Dr. Ayushi. If not a dentist, she would have been a news anchor!

The Legit Talks asked Dr. Ayushi about her proud moment, to which she denied having one. She just makes every day count and lives contently.

The five-year plan for Dr. Ayushi involves her living happily with her family. She has always longed to spend time with her loved ones and she is looking forward to it. She also plans to open two clinics of her own.

It is often said that we grow through what we go through. It was not Dr. Ayushi’s first choice of becoming a dentist. She considered it as God’s plan and she anchored it. Today she has learned so much about the field and she grew as a person too.

The biggest challenge in Dr. Ayushi’s life was the step of marriage. Married life changes everything, especially for a girl. Adjusting to a new house and people, their habits, their likes and dislikes, and on top of that trying to grow your career is a big task. Things are different for a girl when she is at her mother’s house and when she stays with her in-laws. Her responsibilities grow and there is so much to look after, that girls get pretty less time to study. Dr. Ayushi, however, strived hard through all these with determination toward her career and studies.

Dr. Ayushi is grateful for having a loving husband and a family. She’s also grateful for whatever she has achieved. She feels blessed as she got everything she asked for. She is also grateful for her parents as they have been supportive through all these years, especially her mother.

The message that Dr. Ayushi has for the viewers is that Trust your Timeline. Do not compare your life with others, trust God and whatever he has designed for you.

Dr. Ayushi appreciates the efforts of The Legit Talks team and how they strive hard to let people know the unknown. Short but impactful stories are what makes this platform legit, says Dr. Ayushi.

Power of Principles

Dr. Vijay Jeswani is an ophthalmologist and director of Hardev Eye Care, Nagpur. He specializes in cornea, cataract, and Lasik surgery.

Dr. Vijay perceives ophthalmology as a rewarding branch of study. He supported his perception with a very great example. In the case of cataracts, the patient’s vision is blurred, and is not able to see properly. After the operation, he regains his vision. This is the most rewarding satisfaction of ophthalmology, says Dr. Jeswani.

Dr. Vijay has done a super specialization in the cornea. If a person dies and the relatives are willing to donate the body’s organs, the cornea is collected in the Eye Bank. Dr. Vijay uses such cornea to transplant in the body of a living person, who has no vision. He has experience of about 10 to 11 years.

When he was a young boy, Dr. Vijay dreamt of becoming a doctor. Now that he has become one, he aims higher. He wants to open eye clinics in rural parts of India, so that no one would be deprived of basic eye check-ups and services. After his fellowship at a multispeciality hospital in Nagpur, he found himself growing and being a capable doctor. He, later on, started treating VIP patients too. In Nagpur, Dr. Vijay was the first ophthalmologist to perform Femto Lasik/ Cataract Surgery.

Talking about principles, Dr. Vijay said that he believes in honesty. He believes that the patient should be satisfied with him as a doctor, leading to a healthy doctor-patient relationship. Hard work pays in a long run, says Dr. Vijay. He believes that practicing principles in your personal life would automatically reflect in your professional life.

The legit Talks asked Dr. Vijay about the ongoing malpractices of fraud doctors. Dr. Vijay urged the audience that you as a patient should first know your doctor. Have appropriate information about them before getting treated by them. If you still have doubts, get a second opinion.

Dr. Vijay said that one should be focused in their profession and keep doing the hard work. One should always benefit the client/ customer/ patient first. They should be the ones who are satisfied with your work.

The Legit Talks asked Dr. Vijay about how the times have changed for ophthalmology. Dr. Vijay said that in earlier times of 1960, there was only one eye surgery known as MSICS (Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery). After the development of lenses, the removal of cataracts and the insertion of lenses came into practice. With the advancement of times came phacoemulsification, a machine-aided cataract surgery. Talking about Lasik surgery, RK (Radio Keratotomy) Eye Surgery was used in earlier days, which is now banned. Now only LASIK is used to reduce the power.

The message that Dr. Vijay wants to give the audience is that parents should take care of their child’s eyes. Go for check-ups regularly. He also talked about reducing screen time later in the interview.

Dr. Vijay appreciates the efforts of The Legit Talks team. He says that one needs motivation in every stage of his life and therefore this platform is for everyone.

Patience Is The Key

Dr. Shreya Kate is a dentist working in Nagpur for three years. She owns her clinic in Nagpur. Dr. Shreya says that it is a huge responsibility to run one’s own clinic and that it may get tiring sometimes. When you are doing something new, it gets stressful. But as you do it, you get the hang of it.

The Legit Talks asked Dr. Shreya to talk about common myths or misconceptions related to dentistry. One of the most important points that Dr. Shreya talked about was that people lack awareness, even today, in the field of dentistry and oral hygiene. People lack oral hygiene and thus face many issues related to their teeth. Dr. Shreya advises people to give a regular visit to their dentist to avoid any unwanted complications in the future. Another misconception that people have is that getting medicine, especially painkillers, would heal all their dental problems. They ignore the root cause of the problem, thus leading to complications.

Dr. Shreya talked about how sometimes it gets difficult in the field of dentistry, especially when you run your own clinic. However, it helps when you consult other dentists in the field as well.

Dr. Shreya runs an Instagram page called “iamdentalcare” that helps people understand the basics of dentistry. She started this page with the aim of marketing for her own clinic, but she got asked about very basic things, including how to brush her teeth properly. She then shifted her aim to helping people and addressing their questions.

Talking about her journey, Dr. Shreya said that she was initially looking for a job after completing her education. She however thought it was not a right fit for her, which led her to open her own clinic. She initially dreaded that the practice won’t go well, but she kept patience and gave herself some time to succeed. Dr. Shreya makes it a point to celebrate her daily little achievements at her clinic. Her recent favorite procedure and subject is prosthodontics.

Starting your own clinic requires a lot of hassle. Dr. Shreya thanked her parents, who belong to the medical field which proved to be a big help to her. She also thanked her sister who is also a dentist for guiding her.

The Legit Talks asked Dr. Shreya about the things that she can’t live without. Dr. Shreya prioritizes her work, friends and family, and good food.

Dr. Shreya appreciates the efforts of The Legit Talks show and wishes them all the best.

A Dream of a Common Girl

Dr. Pallavi Nagdeve completed her bachelor’s degree in dental surgery in India, worked for two years, and is now pursuing a master’s degree in public health in Alabama, United States.

Due to her passion for dentistry and oral surgery, Dr. Pallavi pursued this subject during her internship at a private hospital in India. She expanded her horizons to include non-clinical aspects since she feels more connected to them. As a Medical Investigator, she delivered lectures on lifestyle, ergonomics, and medical crises. The work required frequent travel, which she enjoyed. She moved abroad to pursue more education and new chances.

The Legit Talks spoke about Dr. Pallavi’s struggles in India, to which she delivered a sentimental response. She was reared by her mother alone when her father passed away at a very young age. While others celebrated holidays, Dr. Pallavi sat in her home alone while her mother worked. Her mother is her greatest source of strength and motivation. It was a difficult choice for Dr. Pallavi to leave her in India and move to another nation. However, as usual, her mother encouraged her. Her mother is also cared after by her brother.

The job route we take is mostly determined by our primary interests. Dr. Pallavi selected public health because she enjoyed and excelled at it in her prior position. The education system in the United States affords her the opportunity to investigate her topic of interest in more depth. She had the choice to select from a number of subjects.

Speaking about the future of her industry, Dr. Pallavi told The Legit Talks that chances for public health services are better outside of India. In addition to having a variety of possibilities to pick from, the potential for job advancement in foreign countries is rather great.

In dentistry, there are few postgraduate specialisations. Dr. Pallavi investigated the clinical and non-clinical elements of dentistry before making a decision. According to Dr. Pallavi, many international students enrol in public health courses before moving on to dental school. She intends to seek a PhD after completing her current coursework.

Dr. Pallavi discussed how she manifested her public health career. During her internship, she began her investigation into jobs in public health. Nevertheless, it was a difficult decision to study overseas given the current economic climate and the lack of information about how things will turn out. The pandemic then halted all activity for about a year. Dr. Pallavi did not give up, manifesting that she would pursue a career in public health services and beginning her journey in 2021.

The Legit Talks questioned Dr. Pallavi about her greatest accomplishments, and she said that she still has more to accomplish. However, she discussed her struggles since childhood. Her father passed away when she was in sixth grade. It was difficult for her, and she became depressed as a result. Doctors advised her mother and teachers not to force her to study and to let her to recover at her own speed. She gradually emerged from her despair and passed her board exams. She completed all of her academics alone and was never dependent on anyone else. Dr. Pallavi viewed each advancement as a stepping stone. It gives her great pleasure to bring gifts to her loved ones, particularly her mother and brother. This is her biggest achievement.

Dr. Pallavi thinks that everyone should pursue their dreams. There will always be those who say you cannot do something. Ignore their advice and pursue your dreams.

Dr. Pallavi wishes to convey to the audience that if they wish to study abroad, they must maintain concentration and not lose their way. Research every aspect of the career, including the application procedure. It is difficult to maintain motivation in challenging circumstances, but you can motivate yourself.

Dr. Pallavi appreciated The Legit Talks Show team’s efforts and praised the show’s focus on the experiences of ordinary people. Everyone has their own narrative, and when these experiences are shared on a publicly available platform, it inspires others.

Psychiatry 101 with Dr. Pritisha

Dr. Pritisha Saxena is a psychiatric consultant in Nagpur, Maharashtra. She was fascinated with psychiatry because of how marvelously the brain functions and what it is capable of.

The Legit Talks inquired about the history of psychology and the necessity of it in our daily lives. According to Dr. Pritisha, people all across the world associate mental illness with evil spirits. In the middle of the 19th century, a revolution occurred when individuals realized that psychiatry had to do with the human mind and not just the organ and that the mind is affected by culture, environment, and interpersonal problems. Since then, there has been a great deal of research and development in the discipline of psychiatry.

Dr. Pritisha claims that she does not let her personal life affect her career or vice versa while discussing work-life balance. However, she performs sessions that are traumatic to hear for her as a psychiatrist, but after the session is over, she is isolated from the situation. She simply visits the patient’s case before the next appointment. In order to aid her patients, she must be in good mental health.

Dr. Pritisha discussed how people have inaccurate ideas about those who visit a psychiatrist. It appears acceptable for patients with severe psychotic symptoms. People presume that individuals who appear normal on the outside but are mentally ill are lazy. In contrast to kidney stones or any other disease of a similar nature, it is impossible to present a certificate regarding a patient’s mental illness, despite the progress of science.

The patient undergoes a physical examination first, followed by a mental evaluation. Dr. Pritisha said to The Legit Talks that the patient’s brain is affected as a whole, not just a portion. She also discussed how the amygdala is responsible for the brain’s flight-or-fight response.

It is difficult to pinpoint where in the brain memory is stored or where emotions originate. There are still brain-related topics for which science has no explanation. Dr. Pritisha stated that people who accomplish a great deal in life have well-defined priorities and routines, as well as control over their sleep and food intake. It requires training your brain to focus on positive rather than negative thoughts.

Dr. Pritisha was questioned by Legit Talks regarding generational trauma. She stated that women face the most generational trauma when they reach reproductive age, particularly in India. Women in India avoid healthy sexual relationships because they are unaware of their bodies and menstruation is regarded as filthy. In the majority of India, the situation has not changed for the vast majority of the population.

Dr. Pritisha stated that individuals should not view treatment as a sign of weakness or insanity and urged them to seek assistance if necessary.

The Legit Talks inquired about wishful thinking with the guest. Dr. Pritisha stated that if a patient does not perceive things as they are, such as calling an apple a banana, he or she has a mental disorder. It may be the result of illusion, hallucination, or color blindness.

Dr. Pritisha answered concerns regarding indecisiveness, and anxiety, and how anticipating future events causes indecisiveness. She also discussed how toxic relationships ruin us and how much more vital personal relationships are. If childhood traumas are not healed, individuals are generally stuck in a loop of toxic relationships as they seek love in a partner. She also responded to queries regarding toxic parents, stating that it is acceptable to dislike some undesirable characteristics of one’s parents. During the discussion, similar questions were also addressed.

Dr. Pritisha believes that it is important to discuss things that people are often hesitant to discuss, and The Legit Talks is one such platform.

That is Why Believing in Yourself Makes all the Difference

Dr. Anuradha Makhe is a dentist who completed her education in 2000 at Government College, Nagpur. She had her practice but later moved to Hyderabad following her marriage. She also moved to the United States for one and a half years but was unable to legally operate there. Therefore, she visited a local Indian dentist to observe and research how dentistry is practiced abroad. She returned to Hyderabad and began working at the local clinic. Ten years of her career were unstable. In 2008, she went to Pune to pursue a PGDHM course. A college gave her a temporary teaching position. She later joined a couple of clinics and maintained her teaching position. Eventually, she quit her job at the clinic and resumed teaching, her true passion.

During the pandemic lockdown, it was challenging for Dr. Anuradha to juggle both online teaching and home responsibilities. She had difficulty setting up the system and grasping new technology. The cooperation of students and other teachers helped her a lot. However, she was unable to find fulfillment in teaching because she had little personal interaction with her students. Permission was obtained for hospital visits for the following batch of students, easing the situation.

The Legit Talks questioned her about career paths, to which Dr. Anuradha responded that there is no right or wrong answer; you do what you believe to be correct at the moment. She gave an example of how she went from studying dentistry to teaching non-dental subjects. Being a teacher provides her with greater job satisfaction than being a dentist. She stated that sometimes career paths are determined by current situations and circumstances. And later, if you think this is not the right path, you can change. To progress in any profession, one must devote a sufficient amount of time to figuring things out. Dr. Anuradha emphasized that students now have numerous options, which they should freely explore.

However, Dr. Anuradha said, students may be confused by the number of new career options. One must first understand the scope of the stream before making a decision. To become a professional in any field, you must devote time, dedication, and enthusiasm. Then and only then can you achieve success, says Dr. Anuradha.

Women face the most difficulties when multitasking. It becomes tough for individuals to balance household duties with a career. Due to these responsibilities, women are typically more scattered in all directions. When making decisions concerning home and jobs, women experience guilt and dilemmas as well.

Dr. Anuradha inspires the audience by stating that they should first believe in themselves, take responsibility for their actions, and always remember that they have a choice.

Listen To Your Mind and Keep Reinventing Yourself

Dr. Shweta Thakkar is a dentist by profession, a blogger, and a resin artist. She considers dentistry to be an art form in its own way.

Dr. Shweta always had an interest in food blogging, but the passion intensified while she was in Ahmedabad. There were plenty of opportunities, but she lacked the confidence to start a food blog. However, she began her efforts, and her blog already has more than 5,000 subscribers within a year. Since then, she has been active on her blog and has attempted to post daily updates.

The Legit Talks asked the guest about how bloggers collaborate with brands. Dr. Shweta replied that some brands partner and provide free merchandise, while others do not pay anything. She now prefers to partner with brands that are beneficial to her, even if she is not compensated. Collaboration is difficult with certain brands and easy with others, she added.

Dr. Shweta talked about how she has always been passionate about art. During the pandemic lockdown, she discovered a passion for resin art. She attended several workshops to study resin art. She then began instructing those around her. After that, she launched her resin art page, through which she later began online teaching and the page grew. She also led a session for children, which she truly loved despite its difficulty. Dr. Shweta observed that when the resin is used to create art, a unique and beautiful product is produced. She said that one should not expect resin art to be in a certain way, it flows and art is born.  Art was initially challenging for her, but she is now skilled at it.

The Legit Talks asked the guest about how she keeps up with her varied interests. Dr. Shweta is passionate about dentistry and desires to open her clinic. She also pursues her interest in food blogging and hopes to advance in that profession. She enjoys resin art and desires to explore her artistic side. Help The Speechless of All Kinds

Dr. Anju Waghmare is a veterinarian who serves as an assistant manager for a private corporation. She also worked in the central government for nearly a year but left to pursue greater possibilities in the private sector.

She believes that our educational experiences shape our future. She was more engaged in extracurricular activities when she was in school. Her participation in debating tournaments since childhood has contributed to her personal development. She also composed a play that was performed at the division level. Five years of her college life were spent in Parbhani. She pursued her master’s degree in animal nutrition. She noted that the percentage of women applying to veterinary school is higher than that of men, which is positive.

When working in a clinic, emergencies might arise at any time, day or night. Therefore, doctors must be present in times of emergency. People have increased their awareness of animals. For example, if they spot an injured bird, they transport it quickly to the rescue centre. However, when a wild animal inadvertently enters human society, a large crowd forms and the animal becomes frightened. Occasionally, these creatures also suffer shock. Veterinarians treat these animals. Dr. Anju provided a list of Instagram accounts for centers, including Wildlife Rescue.

People who know nothing about being a veterinarian also want to participate. Such persons can volunteer at rescue centres. Necessary to have the order to help the mute; you may contribute in a variety of ways, such as saving animals from danger, managing them, and feeding them. However, only a trained veterinarian should administer treatment, explains Dr. Anju.

The Legit Talks inquired how Dr. Anju’s speaking abilities have affected her life. She said that it had boosted her confidence and given her strength. In addition, she underlined its significance during the interview process. When owners bring their pets to the clinic, they are frequently anxious about their pets’ health. Dr. Anju uses her communication abilities to reassure pet owners that their animals are healthy. Dr. Anju considers factors such as the use of words, the tone of communication, and the manner of speech when she speaks. Conversation with different people aids in the improvement of communication abilities.

Dr. Anju described how special it is to work in a veterinary clinic since she is saving the lives of the speechless. Humans can verbalize their suffering, however, animals cannot, making their lives more difficult. Dr. Anju also discussed her experience treating a dog with cancer while working at the clinic. It offered her a very fulfilling experience.

People frequently encounter fraudulent doctors, who have not pursued the degree but practice in clinics. People file complaints against such doctors. Dr. Anju recommends going to a government hospital to avoid these fraudulent doctors. Some rescue centers and non-governmental organisations are also frauds since they collect funds but do not give services.

Dr. Anju talked about the career prospects of being a vet. She said that it is not necessary to earn a master’s degree to begin a career in veterinary medicine; a bachelor’s degree is sufficient. Those who wish to become professors can get a master’s degree and a doctorate. After receiving the degree, it is possible to open a private clinic. One can even join the rescue center as a veterinarian. There are also opportunities to serve as a consultant, veterinarian, or assistant director at autonomous institutes under the ministry’s authority. Those with expertise in animal nutrition can market feed meals for their goods.

The lifestyle of people is changing, they are learning more about the environment, rescuing animals, and helping the speechless. People are also preferring to go vegan and vegetarian. This one choice has a greater effect on the ecosystem.

To save animals, the discipline of veterinary requires more devotion from veterinarians. To save an injured animal or an animal in danger, they must possess a great deal of empathy. A doctor must also possess a kind attitude toward animals.

Dr. Anju describes her college experience when she was studying to become a veterinarian. She was first hesitant, but her interest grew in third and fourth grade. She understood that this field is better than the MBBS. As a veterinarian, Dr. Anju advises the audience to be more compassionate and empathic towards animals. Helping animals is like helping God.

Dr. Anju is an ardent fan of The Legit Talks. She appreciates the variety of issues discussed on India’s most popular talk show. “Keep expanding, keep gleaming”, stated Dr. Anju.
