Keep Things in Your Own Way, It Will Make You Happy & Grounded

Ms. Shriyuta is a dentist by profession working at Gadhchiroli. She works as a research fellow in an NGO. She has been interested in dentistry since day one. In her third year, she decided to do something in public community service, as she loved it. She never saw herself having her own clinic but working in public community service.  Public health is healthcare available for everyone, appropriate, and free for everyone. It starts with prevention and gets widened care without any questions asked. Healthcare in India is medicalized making people think that it is technical stuff. It is a larger structure that defines the health status of a person. Healthcare is often seen as political too. It has a broader sense than policies, laws, management, health economics, social and behavioral sciences, and political sciences. Public Healthcare is what Ms. Shriyuta is passionate about and she strives hard to work in that field.  Talking about social justice, Ms. Shriyuta says that it has always been denied in India for very long. This is why people had to fight for independence in history, but not much has changed. Even today, the general public has to fight for social justice in public healthcare. Ms. Shriyuta says that public healthcare should be prioritized on a larger scale in India.  Ms. Shriyuta added that other developing countries spend more on their healthcare rather than other things such as defense. She says that healthcare should be free of cost and accessible to everyone. There should be more concern about why doctors are not willing to work in remote areas and why healthcare is so degrading in India. She also talked about difficulties faced by the general public during the pandemic and how people died due to a lack of healthcare management.  In India, many girls are forced to listen to their parents without considering their opinion. The Legit Talks asked Ms. Shriyuta about her views on this topic. She said that parents and even society as a whole have to change their perspective. Many girls are even forced to get married at a very young age shattering their dreams. What people would say should stop concerning you. For such girls, Ms. Shriyuta has a message: communicate your needs and dreams with your loved ones. Share with them how you feel and what you want to become. Educating the parents is also important so that they understand their child’s point of view.  Ms. Shriyuta appreciates the efforts of The Legit Talks as it gives chance for ordinary people to tell their stories. The people also get inspired and get to learn about life.

Destiny Will Make It Happen, Keep Reinventing Yourself

Mrs. Ruchika Yadav is an artist by passion and soft skills trainer by profession. Talking about her journey, she has faced many ups and downs in her life. However, her prayers and honesty at work kept her going. Her family advised her to take a government job, but coming from an HR background it was difficult for her. She worked in the corporate sector for 4 years and then joined the government as a soft skills trainer. She kept on working hard and is blessed to have what she has today. The reason why Mrs. Ruchika loves her job is that she gets to interact with a lot of people, which she loves to do.

Remembering her old days, Mrs. Ruchika talked about the most challenging period of her life. When in Delhi, she had been asked to join for training in Chennai. Her child was just 1.5 years old and she did not have the heart to go. Her inlaws and husband supported her and assured her about their child. When she was in Chennai, her husband got a great opportunity in Pune. She feared how would her child grow up with its parents apart. Later on, she also came to Pune and then all her family was together. The time she spent apart was the most difficult part of her life.  Everyone gets stuck at some point in their life. Mrs. Ruchika says that it is nature’s way of telling you to take a pause and refresh yourself. Enjoy little things and do things that you love. This is a reboot system to charge your brain for the coming life.

Talking about her passion, Ruchika said that she had been interested in painting since her childhood. Her strokes were remarkable and her friends and teachers always appreciated her. She continued her passion for painting till her school and college. But later on, she got engrossed in her studies and slowly the passion for painting was left in the corner. After many years, while in Pune, she met her old friend who came to buy art supplies for her paintings. She congratulated her friend for her upcoming exhibition, but deep down she felt broken. She went home and picked up the brush and resumed her passion. Moreover, she said that family support to pursue your passions is most important. Now Mrs. Ishwari also has art exhibitions and her paintings are also published in books.

The Legit Talks asked Ruchika about selfcare. She said that selfcare is more about mental health care than about physical health care. Selfcare is about feeding your soul. Painting, for Mrs. Ishwari, is feeding her soul.  The message that Mrs. Ishwari wants to give to the audience is that spend your day wisely. Follow your passion, have some me-time, and stay connected with yourself. Explore and learn different things. Many women sacrifice their passions for the sake of family, responsibilities, and society. Mrs. Ishwari urges all such women to pursue their passion at any time they want. She gave an example of her mother. Her mother is 60+ years old and is now pursuing her singing passion. Ruchika also urges the generation of today to ask their parents what they used to love or what their passions were and support them to pursue their old passion.  Ruchika appreciates the efforts of The Legit Talks. She says that such platforms inspire other people to overcome their difficulties and follow their dreams.

De-Coding Therapy and the Women Behind It

Ms. Ishwari Marathe is specifically trained in Rational Emotive Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which applies to all mental health concerns. She has a personal practice, but her sessions are online since she is based in Germany. She also learns Indian Classical music and loves to travel.  Ms. Ishwari focuses on the word “Aham”, which means self. This is because a counseling session is the patient’s journey within himself.  Since Ms. Ishwari has patients pan-global, she comes across different cultural backgrounds of people. She said that acceptance of therapy has grown globally. Nowadays, people open up to their best friends and avoid going to a professional therapist, even when advised to do so. The Legit Talks asked Ms. Ishwari’s take on this. She said that though a friend’s support is essential, he/ she cannot go deeper to identify the root cause of the issue, which is addressed by a professional therapist. There are some issues rooted deep inside that even the patient and his family members are unaware of. Only a skilled professional is able to identify and treat such issues.  At what point in time should one seek a therapist; this is the common question we all have. Ms. Ishwari said that as soon as one notices the difference between who they were and suddenly they are different. These differences can be in your thinking, mood, appetite, or sleep pattern. If someone is having self-harming thoughts, then one should seek help immediately.  The most challenging patients for Ms. Ishwari are those who are resistant to the treatment. When a patient is convinced that he needs help, half of the job is done. However, convincing a patient who does not accept help is hard.  Many people have wrong perceptions about a therapist. They think that therapists may constantly nag them and would not support them. On the contrary, a therapist understands your issues and helps you to choose a path that is most comfortable for you. Also, the patient himself feels negative about himself thinking that something is wrong with them while visiting a therapist.  Many times, it is difficult for a patient to trust a therapist. Ms. Ishwari says that sometimes a patient may take more than three sessions to open up. But a therapist never judges their client for their issues and always help them to accept themselves.  Though Ms. Ishwari enjoys her job, working out is the best part of her day, she says. It helps her to start her day positively. There are some days when Ms. Ishwari does not feel like taking sessions and meeting the clients. She accepts this as she is a human before she is a therapist and that it is normal for everyone to feel like this once in a while.     Ms. Ishwari is an emotional person. Whenever she hears a painful story of a client, she tears up. She says that letting flow your tears is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of authenticity.  The Legit Talks asked Ms. Ishwari why there are more women in this profession. Ms. Ishwari said that one reason could be that women are more empathetic, communicate more effectively, and that they understand better. One other reason she added is that most of the financial support of a household is dependent on a man. There is this peer pressure that a man should earn more. However, in this profession, making money is not easy unless you start your private practice. Then, setting up your own clinic also requires infrastructure. Therefore, more women prefer this job to men.  Talking about job satisfaction, Ms. Ishwari says that when she and the client are both on the same page, that is her biggest satisfaction. When she comes to know how a patient’s life has changed because of her, she knows that she is doing the right thing.  Therapy is not gender specific, says Ms. Ishwari. People assume that men don’t need therapy, they perceive them as strong beings. It is not true. Emotions are common for everyone and anyone can go to therapy.   Ms. Ishwari’s goals are to expand her brand and conduct more workshops on mental health.  The message that Ms. Ishwari wants to give to the audience is that prioritize your mental health at all costs. Everything comes later, but mental health comes first. Do not hesitate to seek the help of a professional when you don’t feel good.  Watch the complete session of Ms. Ishwari on the following YouTube channel

Management comes naturally to her, says Atiyyah. It was her father’s advice to study management as he found that his daughter was very good at it. While pursuing her studies, she got married too. It was difficult for her to manage everything at once, but she managed to do it.

The ultimate dream of Atiyyah is to travel the world. She also wants to start her own business, where she can be the boss of her own.

Atiyyah talked about how she learns from the mistakes she has made in the past and how not to repeat them. Her friends and her family are the biggest supporters in her blogging journey. She is grateful to her family, her in-laws, and her husband for giving her support. She is also grateful for her being healthy and safe.

Success for Atiyyah is making a difference by accomplishing her set of goals. Making her parents, in-laws, and grandparents proud is her definition of success.

The future plans for Atiyyah are very bright as she will soon launch her website with more food-related content. She wants to expand her creativity using this website.

The Legit Talks focuses on people with diversity. Taking into account this factor, The Legit Talks asked how Atiyyah felt about Hijab. She feels sad that society just assumes things and does not have a different perception. Hijab is a clothing choice opted for by Atiyyah. She feels empowered by wearing Hijab as she is in control of what skin to show and what not. Hijab is not a burden, she added.

The message that Atiyyah wants to give to the audience is that start practicing self-care seriously. Do what makes you happy is her mantra for life.

No university in the world would teach you life lessons. This is why The Legit Talks is unique as it focuses on the extraordinary journey of ordinary people like us.

What Youth of India Wants

Hailing from Delhi, Mr. Suraj Bansal is a social activist who strives hard for youth empowerment. He is also a national football player, currently representing his college. Mr. Suraj encourages and supports the youth, especially those of the underprivileged class.

He says that there are many talented youths who are deprived of opportunities. He started this club with his friends and has crossed more than 150 people today. Having faced a lot of struggles himself, Mr. Suraj is able to identify the problems faced by underprivileged people. The reason behind finding this club was to not let other people face struggles as he did. He strives hard to provide people with opportunities and help them to achieve their goals.

The Legit Talks asked Mr. Suraj about how such situations lead to deterioration in mental health and how to overcome it. Mr. Suraj said they help the youth, especially teenagers who give up easily and try suicide. They talk it out and encourage youth to fight for their dreams.

The Legit Talks asked how people approach this club. Mr. Suraj said that he is associated with around fifteen NGOs that work for various causes. He gets a lot of support from them as well. Another thing Mr. Suraj mentioned was that he organizes meetups and an event every week. This helps people know about this club and thus they approach it. He also talked about how NGOs have helped him during his hard times.

When asked about his biggest achievement, Mr. Suraj was very humble and said that he hasn’t achieved much yet. However, whenever he is in need and someone helps him with his club, he takes that as an achievement. He also explained this with an example. He was invited to some function and he was accepted to arrive with his club members. Within one night, the volunteers of the club managed to take 125 youths to the function.

Mr. Suraj talked about the different NGOs and how they work. He also talked about how easy it is to be a part of an NGO.

Looking back at his life, Mr. Suraj has come a long way and still has to achieve a lot. His goal is to connect with and work for every youth in India who is underprivileged and help them to achieve their dreams.

The message that Mr. Suraj wants to give to the youth of India is that no matter whether you win or lose, play the game till the very end. Do not give up, and success will surely come to you.

In the end, Mr. Suraj talked about his residence in what people call the slum area and how they face difficulties there. His biggest inspiration for all his works is his mother.

How I Made a Career in Film Industry

Mr. Pratik Hiwarkar is an artist, writer, and director who have worked in some of the commercial films in the industry. He started as a Hockey player in his teenage years and represented as a state-level player till his second year of graduation. Later due to some reasons, his connections with Hockey started to lose. He was also a football player. During his graduation, he wanted to be an Income Tax officer, under the influence of the  Bollywood film ‘Special Chabbis’. Later on, he auditioned for acting in the local college and got selected. After a few days, he got a call to attend a workshop to learn acting skills. This required money and his father refused to support him. He convinced his father for 15 days and finally succeeded. He completed the workshop and returned to his hometown, Nagpur. His father came to pick him up at the railway station when he got the call from Mumbai that he was selected for some role in the leading TV serial of that time, Kumkum Bhagya. He was summoned immediately to Mumbai. He, however, could not afford an immediate flight. He lost his opportunity there.

Mr. Hiwarkar did not give up. He kept on auditioning and learning. He also auditioned for a role in a documentary by Mushtaq Khan. He was asked money for playing the lead role.                                                                                                                              He learned about theatres during this process. He started doing plays and learned a lot from them. He did short films, too.

To succeed in theatres and Bollywood, one has to live in Mumbai. Mr. Hiwarkar thought to himself that since he had gained much experience in theatre and short films, he was ready to explore the bigger part of the industry. However, his upcoming exams for graduation stopped him. Due to his shoots and auditions, he could not attend classes. He is thankful to his teachers who helped him last minute and made him learn his subjects. He scored well in his exams, which made his father force him to look for a job.

After completing his graduation, MR. Hiwarkar shifted to Mumbai with the thought that he would try an acting career first and then if he fails, he would look for a job. During his journey, he came in contact with an artist from Nagpur, Mayuresh Joshi, who recommended Mr. Hiwarkar to join Abhinay Katta in Thane. That gave him some hope.

Mr. Hiwarkar also tried his hands on Marathi Film Industry. During his journey, he also came across fake production houses. After a few days, he got chance for theatre but he was very far from where he lived. He asked the producers and directors for help, but they denied. It was getting difficult to manage with little money. They started to walk to their destination.

While struggling, Mr. Hiwarkar went on to explore Abhinay Katta. When he entered the studio, he was awestruck with the sight of trophies. He made a decision that would get a job in acting from here by hook or by crook. He met Mr. Kiran Sir there, whom Mr. Hiwarkar considers as his Godfather. Thus began the journey of being an actor for Mr. Hiwarkar.

Being in a film industry, one comes across multi-talented people who are actors as well as directors. Mr. Hiwarkar wanted to try his hands on writing as well. Luckily, he has a writer friend who guided him. As it is rightly said, practice makes a man perfect. Mr. Hiwarkar kept on writing and started publishing his blogs too. At the same time, he started shooting short videos with his phone camera. His friends liked his videos, encouraging him to write bigger things and direct his short film. For casting, he chose his group of friends who would support him and guide him about right and wrong. In this way, Mr. Hiwarkar established himself as an actor, a writer, and a director. While talking about his struggles, Mr. Hiwarkar remembered his days and how it is easier said than done.

After doing a few movies, Mr. Hiwarkar wanted to do something of his own. He started to work on the script of the movie during the lockdown.  Making a movie requires a great deal of money and no producer was convinced to pour money into Mr. Hiwarkar’s film.

He then heard of the IFH competition, where he participated. Out of 70,000 films, Mr. Hiwarkar’s film came in the top 10. This boosted his confidence. With his team, Mr. Hiwarkar made an innovative film called “Kapda”. This movie proved to be a turning point in his life. It won many awards and appreciation.

Mr. Hiwarkar is currently working on a Marathi Film that includes many great Marathi artists.

The Legit Talks asked Mr. Hiwarkar about his learnings from the struggle. He said that learning is a continuous process and it never ends.

Making a career in the entertainment industry is very difficult. To succeed, Mr. Hiwarkar advises that do not chase fame but chase good content and hard work.

Mr. Hiwarkar thanked The Legit Talks Show for giving him the opportunity to speak about his journey. He praised the show calling it the only show that is truthful and not scripted. He loved the genuineness of the show and wishes the team all the best for the future.

What is Therapy and What Do Therapists Do?

Ms. Prajna Priyadarshini Pathak is a counseling psychologist from Assam, India. She completed her graduation in Assam and then pursued her master’s from Montfort College, Banglore.

Since childhood, Ms. Prajna was curious about human behavior. She also used to visit the school library to find books on human behavior. She also consulted her teachers regarding where to find such books and how can she study more. After junior college, she decided to pursue psychology as it interested her more. She is currently working at West Delhi Psychiatry Centre, Delhi.

The Legit Talks asked Ms. Prajna to explain what therapy is since there is still a taboo about it today. Ms. Prajna explained very simply that therapy is a safe and confidential space where you can talk about the problems you are facing in life, be of any kind. The therapist may not necessarily solve your problem but would teach you to deal with them in a better way. Also, therapy works differently for different people. Therefore, counseling each person is different.

Talking about the taboo about mental health, Ms. Prajna said that many times, a therapist is ridiculed saying that they just listen to people’s problems. People say that even friends listen to our problems. People do not understand that being in therapy is actually a treatment for your problems.

Often, people do not understand when should they consult a therapist. Ms. Prajna says that one should consult a therapist when one experiences sadness for a prolonged time, repetitive anxiousness, panic attacks, or not getting over a specific thought. It is also advised to seek help when someone goes through a grief period like dealing with harsh break-ups, losing your loved ones, or career pressures.

People wonder how a therapist would help them. As stated earlier, Ms. Prajna said that since every person is different and everyone faces different issues in life, the treatment also varies.

Now, the biggest question is whom to consult. Doctors who have pursued M.D in Psychiatry are known as Psychiatrists. They can prescribe medicines. Those who study clinical psychology are known as psychologists. They often work in collaboration with the psychiatrist. Then there are counseling psychologists who give counseling and are often called therapists. Psychologist often studies their patients and then study further treatment. If required, they suggest taking treatment from a psychiatrist.

The ultimate goal of Ms. Prajna is to have more patience in life.

The message that Ms. Prajna wants to give to the audience is that be authentic.

Ms. Prajna appreciates the efforts of The Legit Talks show and wishes them all the best for their future.

The Journey of an Entrepreneur

Mrs. Anubhuti Jain Mishra is the founder of Anubhuti- An Experience, which is a natural skin and hair care brand. She started her journey in October 2020. She delivered her baby in the year 2019. Unfortunately, her baby was born with a chronic kidney disorder. The stress of being a new mom and an unwell child took a toll on her body. She also faced postpartum issues such as severe hair fall and acne marks. To cure these issues, Anubhuti started with natural DIY. This led her to the idea of business. Initially, she started with seven flavors of lip butter, and today she owns more than 65 products of her brand. The feedback and questions from customers helped her business grow as she launched more products according to needs.

Starting your own business is always tough, especially for a new mom with an unwell child. Anubhuti did not give up and worked day and night to set up the business. She also has great support from her husband.

There’s competition everywhere, be it any business. These days the marketing of organic products is everywhere, which makes it difficult for new brands to expand. The Legit Talks asked Anubhuti about how she survived in this growing world of competition. Anubhuti works truly hard and is honest with her business. She said that though they are growing slowly, it is organic growth. She does not do any paid partnerships or advertisements for their products. The only principle she follows is to not give up; whatever happens, happens for a reason.

Anubhuti also faces bad days in her life, but her husband always supports her. She has also been a participant in the Shark Tank India season 2. She faced many difficulties even with the vendors for raw materials, as it was difficult for them to trust a woman business entrepreneur.

Being an engineer has taught Anubhuti that she can do a lot more than she thinks. She is capable of achieving many accomplishments in her life and nothing can stop her.

Anubhuti describes herself as a risk taker and not one with taking calculative risks. She goes with the flow and believes in herself while taking risks. She gave a beautiful example about her son. She got to know about his condition when she was seven months pregnant. She was given the choice of dropping the fetus and discontinuing the pregnancy. She thought to herself and realized that she does not have the right to take someone’s life and she continued her pregnancy. It was a very high risk she took her life.

The Legit Talks asked her about what challenges she faces during her journey as an entrepreneur. Anubhuti said that initially she didn’t have any help and she worked day and night. Her health worsened and therefore she had to take the help of supplements to keep her going. However, she said that since she was driven with passion, everything was worth it.

The advise that Anubhuti wants to give to the upcoming young entrepreneurs is that take risks and don’t give up, and keep going on the path that you have chosen.

Anubhuti appreciates the efforts of The Legit Talks team. She says that the talks not only motivate the audience but also the speaker. It motivates them to do more good work and boosts their confidence.
