Dr. Vijay Jeswani is an ophthalmologist and director of Hardev Eye Care, Nagpur. He specializes in cornea, cataract, and Lasik surgery.
Dr. Vijay perceives ophthalmology as a rewarding branch of study. He supported his perception with a very great example. In the case of cataracts, the patient’s vision is blurred, and is not able to see properly. After the operation, he regains his vision. This is the most rewarding satisfaction of ophthalmology, says Dr. Jeswani.
Dr. Vijay has done a super specialization in the cornea. If a person dies and the relatives are willing to donate the body’s organs, the cornea is collected in the Eye Bank. Dr. Vijay uses such cornea to transplant in the body of a living person, who has no vision. He has experience of about 10 to 11 years.
When he was a young boy, Dr. Vijay dreamt of becoming a doctor. Now that he has become one, he aims higher. He wants to open eye clinics in rural parts of India, so that no one would be deprived of basic eye check-ups and services. After his fellowship at a multispeciality hospital in Nagpur, he found himself growing and being a capable doctor. He, later on, started treating VIP patients too. In Nagpur, Dr. Vijay was the first ophthalmologist to perform Femto Lasik/ Cataract Surgery.
Talking about principles, Dr. Vijay said that he believes in honesty. He believes that the patient should be satisfied with him as a doctor, leading to a healthy doctor-patient relationship. Hard work pays in a long run, says Dr. Vijay. He believes that practicing principles in your personal life would automatically reflect in your professional life.
The legit Talks asked Dr. Vijay about the ongoing malpractices of fraud doctors. Dr. Vijay urged the audience that you as a patient should first know your doctor. Have appropriate information about them before getting treated by them. If you still have doubts, get a second opinion.
Dr. Vijay said that one should be focused in their profession and keep doing the hard work. One should always benefit the client/ customer/ patient first. They should be the ones who are satisfied with your work.
The Legit Talks asked Dr. Vijay about how the times have changed for ophthalmology. Dr. Vijay said that in earlier times of 1960, there was only one eye surgery known as MSICS (Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery). After the development of lenses, the removal of cataracts and the insertion of lenses came into practice. With the advancement of times came phacoemulsification, a machine-aided cataract surgery. Talking about Lasik surgery, RK (Radio Keratotomy) Eye Surgery was used in earlier days, which is now banned. Now only LASIK is used to reduce the power.
The message that Dr. Vijay wants to give the audience is that parents should take care of their child’s eyes. Go for check-ups regularly. He also talked about reducing screen time later in the interview.
