Dr. Anuradha Makhe is a dentist who completed her education in 2000 at Government College, Nagpur. She had her practice but later moved to Hyderabad following her marriage. She also moved to the United States for one and a half years but was unable to legally operate there. Therefore, she visited a local Indian dentist to observe and research how dentistry is practiced abroad. She returned to Hyderabad and began working at the local clinic. Ten years of her career were unstable. In 2008, she went to Pune to pursue a PGDHM course. A college gave her a temporary teaching position. She later joined a couple of clinics and maintained her teaching position. Eventually, she quit her job at the clinic and resumed teaching, her true passion.
During the pandemic lockdown, it was challenging for Dr. Anuradha to juggle both online teaching and home responsibilities. She had difficulty setting up the system and grasping new technology. The cooperation of students and other teachers helped her a lot. However, she was unable to find fulfillment in teaching because she had little personal interaction with her students. Permission was obtained for hospital visits for the following batch of students, easing the situation.
The Legit Talks questioned her about career paths, to which Dr. Anuradha responded that there is no right or wrong answer; you do what you believe to be correct at the moment. She gave an example of how she went from studying dentistry to teaching non-dental subjects. Being a teacher provides her with greater job satisfaction than being a dentist. She stated that sometimes career paths are determined by current situations and circumstances. And later, if you think this is not the right path, you can change. To progress in any profession, one must devote a sufficient amount of time to figuring things out. Dr. Anuradha emphasized that students now have numerous options, which they should freely explore.
However, Dr. Anuradha said, students may be confused by the number of new career options. One must first understand the scope of the stream before making a decision. To become a professional in any field, you must devote time, dedication, and enthusiasm. Then and only then can you achieve success, says Dr. Anuradha.
Women face the most difficulties when multitasking. It becomes tough for individuals to balance household duties with a career. Due to these responsibilities, women are typically more scattered in all directions. When making decisions concerning home and jobs, women experience guilt and dilemmas as well.
Dr. Anuradha inspires the audience by stating that they should first believe in themselves, take responsibility for their actions, and always remember that they have a choice.
